Enlightenment, Living In A Bubble ?

Enlightenment, Living In A Bubble?

There is a clear lake. It is absolutely clear, with no touch of a ripple. The air is be-calmed. The sky, pure blue. Yet, all know that underneath the surface of the lake, a whole world lies in constant motion. And one is also aware that the outer world is filled with not a single space of stillness. According to the placement in time and in space, the karmic, inner and the outer flows of movement surrounding the clear lake will soon change it’s surface from the gentle stillness into small or great waves. Rain and wind, snow and hail, pollution and purity — all will come and will go.

The question arises: “Is it not possible to capture, to hold onto moments of perfect, peace-full stillness? To somehow move forward through our lives with them: to live within them, walking within them, into each ‘next’ moment—no matter how hard the storms rage?”

Here lies the view of the immature Zenist: To walk with-in a space and time of Nirvana, in a state of perfect peace, smiling and contented, as if in an insulated, protective bubble of purity, moving through all time. In this most incomplete picture, there are of course still the two, and ofttimes there are the many: the one who is living in a ‘bubble’ of peacefulness, walking or aiming to walk immersed in Nirvana, and the rest of the Whole Being, who remain as sleep-walkers in a shadow-filled reality.

What about the ONE breath, and Harmony for the All? Thus the followers of Quan Yin’s Oath of Dedication to remain on Earth—purifying the whole Being with their Love-filled breaths, until the last being attains enlightenment, instead of attaining their personal enlightenment and abandoning the ship. And thus the ancient Teaching becomes perfectly clear:
“I am  a bubble, make me the sea.”*
